Shared Lines
Esther Ferrer and Walter Leblanc
13 October – 19 December 2025
Opening: Monday, 13 October 2025, 5–8pm
Presented as part of Europalia España, Shared Lines brings the work of pioneering Spanish artist Esther Ferrer (San Sebastián, 1937) in dialogue with the legacy of Belgian artist Walter Leblanc (Antwerp, 1932–1986). Grounded in a shared interest in space, structure, and repetition, the exhibition explores how both artists, through distinct yet resonant practices, use line, tension, and gesture to activate perception.
A key figure in conceptual and performance art, Ferrer has developed a radical and feminist body of work since the 1960s, spanning actions, installations, drawings, and photography. Mathematics, particularly prime numbers, guide many of her works, enabling her to construct objective systems that minimise subjectivity and prioritise concept over execution. Her Spatial Projects, composed of taut threads arranged within handmade models, generate ephemeral architectures that propose new relationships between body, space, and movement.
Leblanc, a founding member of the Belgian avant-garde group G58 and a significant figure in the post-war European ZERO movement, developed a distinctive visual language through his use of torsion, monochrome, rhythm, and light. His emblematic works, twisted linen threads stretched across monochrome surfaces, create fields of vibration that question perception, materiality, and the immaterial.
This project establishes a dialogue not only with Leblanc’s work, but also with the architecture of the Foundation itself. Ferrer’s intervention engages the building as both frame and field of action. Thread becomes a material and conceptual tool, transforming space through a precise geometry of presence.
